Tackle LIFE Project Launched following PCC Support

Blues Foundation are delighted to announce a new and exciting project, Tackle LIFE, which has been created to promote positive life choices among young people.

The project, which will be delivered through a variety of classroom-based workshops as well as physical activity and enrichment activation, sees Blues Foundation look to provide an alternative education and learning experience for vulnerable young people.

This delivery will be aided by a community grant from Bedfordshire’s Police and Crimes Commissioner, Kathryn Holloway as well as further support from Bedford Borough Council and The Gale Family Charity Trust.

Blues Foundation Manager, Tom Harwood said: “We are delighted to have received this grant from the PCC which will allow us to continue to engage with young people at risk of offending and those who would benefit most from a sport and physical activity intervention.

“Our Tackle LIFE project takes young people through a series of workshops and enrichment activity that develops resilience, confidence and team-work, as well as a significant focus on physical and mental health.”

In 2017, government statistics showed that the number of first-time offenders had decreased by 86% from ten years previous and has since dropped minimally in the years thereafter. Blues Foundation want to offer a project to help enable this statistic to continue to fall and are proud to have designed Tackle LIFE.

This intervention aims to inspire, develop skills and support each young person involved on the project and help them understand the importance of wellbeing – both mentally and physically – including its role in tackling wider issues and challenges.

Using the power of sport and rugby in particular, Tackle LIFE aims to build resilience, discipline and teamwork skills as well as offering increased access to education which has been put at a significant disadvantage due to the COVID pandemic.
