Blues Foundation would like to thank Bedford Running Festival for the donation of 150 t-shirts to the nationwide campaign, Kit Out The Nation.

Three weeks ago, Blues Foundation pledged their support to the campaign which has been designed to distribute sports clothing to school throughout the UK. The overall aim is to give as many children access to kit that they may otherwise not have been able to afford or get hold of.

Lack of sporting equipment – particularly suitable clothing – has shown that thousands of children are not getting the recommended daily amount of activity and exercise, which is 60 minutes.

The COVID-19 pandemic has only gone to highlight the problem nationwide further, and Blues Foundation are determined to have an impact locally in Bedfordshire.

A further drop-off point has been arranged for Bedford Athletic RFC this Sunday between 9:30am-12pm to continue helping those in need. Please join us and help support.

As part of the campaign, we have teamed up with Bedford Running Festival to further the amount of kit we can provide within the local community including the distribution of the 150 t-shirts.

Made up of never worn before kit, spanning years’ worth of spare Half Marathon and Twilight 10k finishers t-shirts, this will allow Blues Foundation to widen the appeal and support more schools across Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire.

Last week, Mark Draper and Linda Wray – pictured with Projects Officer, Claire Hawes – delivered the jerseys and we can’t wait find them good homes.

Blues Foundation Manager, Tom Harwood said: “As a charity we are passionate about removing barriers to participate in sport or physical activity, so we’re delighted to join the Kit Out the Nation campaign and help find new homes for sports kit no longer in use.

“Exercise is so important for our physical and mental health, hopefully through this campaign we can enable more children in Bedfordshire to be active.

“Thank you to Bedford Running Festival for their sizeable donation, we will ensure this is distributed to as many schools and families as possible to have the greatest possible impact in the community.”
