ABILITY Blues project launches
Blues Foundation are delighted to announce an exciting project that will see the charity work with schools and community organisations across Bedfordshire to provide opportunities for young disabled people to have access to rugby and physical activity.
The project, which will be known as ABILITY Blues – Supported by Wooden Spoon Charity, will look to target and work alongside organisations who actively support disabled young people and promote positive mental and physical health.
Through weekly sessions, which again sees Blues Foundation link up with Bedford Blues Community, multiple disabled young people will have access to expert rugby sessions using the values of the sport to promote positive and informed lifestyle choices.
At present, 7% of UK children live with some form of mental or physical disablement and Blues Foundation are thrilled to announce this project which allows the charity to once again have a valuable impact in Bedford and the wider community.
Blues Foundation Manager, Tom Harwood said: “We’re excited to launch our ABILITY Blues programme. At the heart of our Blues Foundation ethos is to provide inclusive physical activity opportunities so we’re really looking forward to supporting disabled young people across Bedford borough and hopefully further afield as time goes on. To be involved with ABILITY Blues please get in touch.”
ABILITY Blues has been launched following a grant from Wooden Spoon, who are the leading children’s charity of rugby. They are passionate about supporting disabled and disadvantaged young people and were able to impact on the lives of 142,000 children last year through their plethora of projects across the UK. Both Blues Foundation and Wooden Spoon care passionately about promoting equal opportunities for all and through this project will be able to link together to transform the lives of children and young people with disabilities or facing disadvantage across the UK and Ireland, through the power of rugby.
Blues Foundation’s very first Ambassador, Budge Rogers, is currently the President of the Bedfordshire arm of Wooden Spoon. This meant it was imperative to form long-lasting relationships between the charities with ABILITY Blues the first project being co-operatively worked on.
If you would like to be part of the ABILITY Blues programme, please get in touch with Foundation Manager, Tom Harwood, via info@blesfoundation.org.uk for more information.
Blues Foundation are about to reach the six-month mark since being granted full charity status. We’re proud of the start made, directly impacting on the lives of 500 people, and continue to look at other avenues to broaden our outreach in Bedfordshire.
