Today more digital devices from The High Sheriff of Bedfordshire’s campaign to tackle digital poverty were delivered to Bedford Academy; part of HEART Academies Trust.

The majority of these devices were those collected from generous individuals in the county who have come together to help those in need within our community and we are proud to be supporting this venture alongside The High Sheriff.

These devices, which have been collected across the county thanks to a group of volunteers including Blues Foundation Trustees, were sent to Veritas Digital Services, who professionally cleaned and installed any required programmes to help young people have greater access to online learning.

Blues Foundation Manager, Tom Harwood said: “It’s great to see these devices delivered to schools, these have been donated directly from local people to help address a serious problem. We are so grateful to everyone who has donated a laptop or tablet.”

Despite coronavirus restrictions easing at the moment, the challenges presented by digital poverty are still prevalent across Bedfordshire and we are determined to continue having an impact and helping those in need.

This latest delivery to Bedford Academy follows similar deliveries to other education campuses across Bedfordshire; including Castle Newnham Primary & Secondary School, Hazeldene Primary School and Bedford Free School. Further deliveries from The High Sheriff also saw schools in Luton and Central Bedfordshire receive donations.

David Morris, Chief Executive Officer of HEART Academies Trust said:

“Many thanks for the amazing gift of 50 computers to HEART this morning, it will make a massive difference to the most vulnerable families in our community. ”

In total, over 1,800 digital devices have been delivered to vulnerable people and represent a fantastic way for The High Sheriff to begin to conclude her tenure in office.
