Golf Day fundraiser a huge success

Blues Foundation’s latest fundraising event was a roaring success raising over £2,500 to support existing and future projects in the local Bedfordshire community.

On 19th May 2021, 25 teams battled it out in a socially distanced Blues Foundation Golf Day, held at Pavenham Park Golf Club.

The start of the Summer sunshine welcomed the teams out onto the 1st or 10th tee to kick off proceedings, with businesses and notable figures from right across the region showing their support to raise money for the vital work Blues Foundation do in the community.

Bedford Blues Head Coach, Alex Rae commented: “It was great to be out playing golf raising money for Blues Foundation. All the work Tom and his team do in the community is brilliant; its enjoyable coming out to play but the main thing is raising money.”

When all the golf was done and dusted, it was time for the moment everyone had been waiting for… the announcement of the winning team. A huge congratulations to Dovecote Park Seconds – featuring Blues Foundation Trustee, Gareth Alred – for a quite remarkable score of 129 points, with Jarvis Homes in second and GB Accounting Solutions in third.

Congratulations to former Bedford Blues legend, Ben Whetstone who posted the best individual score on the day with 44 points.

Reflecting on the day, Whestone said:

“I had a fantastic day on the Blues Foundation Golf Day. It’s the first time anything has felt normal for a long while; great company and great to see Blues Foundation keeping up their good work in the community.”

A huge thank you from Blues Foundation goes to those who helped support the event on the day; Mike Cummins, Emma Cummins & the staff at Pavenham Park Golf Day.

Former Bedford Blues legend, Sacha Harding said: “It’s great to learn a little bit more about the Blues Foundation and what they’re doing to help everyone in the community. It was just awesome to see some of the guys I used to play with and to learn about the other side of the club, and that Blues Foundation are doing good things.”

Bedford Blues and Northampton Saints scrum-half, Connor Tupai commented: “I’m really excited to hear about the work Blues Foundation are currently doing in Bedfordshire, it’s a great charity and hopefully we’ve raised some good money.”

Current Worcester Warriors and 44-cap England wing, Chris Ashton said: “It was great to be at the Blues Foundation Golf Day. Unfortunately, I was Alex Rae’s team so we lost but hopefully all the money that we’ve raised today can go towards good causes.”
