Blues Foundation are delighted to announce that Bedford Blues second row, Oli Curry and the Club’s Media Manager, Ryan Robinson will run the Bedford Half Marathon to raise vital funds for our charity.

The duo have been important fundraisers since our official launch just over a year ago, with Robinson cycling 31kms every day as part of our TryJanuary campaign and Curry offering online training videos throughout this period to help others complete our physical activity exercise challenge.

Curry – who has made 46 appearances and scored two tries for Bedford Blues – also helped our Foodbank collection last Christmas by offering a free bootcamp session to everyone who donated an item to the cause. We were delighted to receive a total of 21,000 items on the day to help those in need across Bedfordshire.

The pair will now step-up their fundraising efforts by taking part in the Bedford Half Marathon as part of the Bedford Running Festival on Sunday 5th September 2021, with the aim of raising a vital £1,000 to support our work.

Curry said: “Since Blues Foundation started, it has been amazing to see their immediate impact in the surrounding community and I’m happy to do my bit to support them.

“During COVID, mental health has been a massive talking point and I’m a firm believer on the positive effects that exercise can have.

“I’ve loved working with Ryan and seeing all of his progress in the gym and hard work with the Foundation so it’s only right that we merge the two and force the poor bloke to run with me. I’ve made a deal that is he beats me, he can take my spot next Pirates away.”

Funds raised through the Bedford Running Festival will ensure we can continue our offering and impact on many more lives across Bedfordshire.

We have been proud to support numerous activations and projects in our first year since being granted full charity status; including the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire’s digital poverty campaign, launching our ABILITY Blues and Tackle LIFE projects and providing meals for the vulnerable.

On agreeing to take part in the Bedford Half Marathon, Robinson said: “The work that Blues Foundation continues to do across Bedfordshire is quite simply inspirational so I want to do as much as I can to help the charity perform their various activations and projects.

“Following the TryJanuary campaign fundraiser, I was looking for the next challenge and this seems like a suitable one so to run the half marathon alongside Oli Curry is something I’m looking forward to.

“Before lockdown, we were both in the gym together quite frequently and since then have been trying to find something to do together rather than playing on the PlayStation. This seems like the perfect option and allows us to raise more funds for Blues Foundation which will go towards helping those in need in our local community.

“I’m delighted to be taking part in the Bedford Half Marathon and hopefully I can keep up with Oli during the run!”

Places still remain to run on behalf of Blues Foundation in the Bedford Half Marathon and Twilight 10k. Click here to read all the details and email info@bluesfoundation.org.uk to submit an entry.
