No to Hunger in Bedford Borough
Blues Foundation are proud to continue supporting the ‘No To Hunger in Bedford Borough’ campaign which progresses another gear from this afternoon (Thursday 15th April 2021).
The overall #notohungerinbedfordborough campaign launched in 2020 with the objective of using the power and spirit of the Bedford community to ensure nobody went hungry, particularly in the recent winter months but continuing into spring also.
Blues Foundation have already had an impact within the scheme to help tackle food inequality, delivering multiple slow cookers across Bedford Borough for families and individuals who otherwise would have been left without access to hot food. Read more here.
And starting this afternoon, the group are committing to releasing quick and simple food recipes and guides every Thursday which can be implemented using items such as the slow cookers donated or any other oven facilities you may have.
These videos have been recorded at various locations across the county further showing the community spirit of Bedford and the generosity of its inhabitants. Click here to watch the first few videos; available on Twitter every Thursday at 2pm and all other social media platforms at 6pm.
These initiatives have brought together several businesses and charities across Bedford; including Bedford Borough Council, Bedford Foodbank, Early Childhood Partnership, Faces, Food4, One YMCA, Project 229 and IMPACT. Find out more about the scheme here.
National UK Charity Turn2Us estimated in January this year that over two million households (around 4.8 million people) are living without essential household appliances such as fridges, freezers, cookers and washing machine. This will only have risen because of the global pandemic.
Therefore, Bedford Borough Council were determined to try and tackle this problem and created a package of support for families and households including the slow cooker campaign, food vouchers, and much more.
Blues Foundation are proud to continue making a difference within the local community and are determined to help wherever possible with this campaign.
This has also seen our charity host a successful foodbank drive where over 21,000 items were collected and donated to Bedford Foodbank to be passed on to those in need at Christmas. We have also been able to deliver 5,000 frozen meals to some of the charities listed above to continue this streamlined thinking with the campaign.
