Pat Tapley’s Charity Cycle Route Confirmed
Blues Foundation are delighted to announce full details ahead of Pat Tapley’s charity cycle tomorrow to raise vital funds for our charity and local primary school, St James’ CE VA.
Due to the recent government announcements regarding tier systems, Tapley’s gruelling 100 mile charity cycle – which was initially scheduled for Christmas Day – will now take place in a concentric loop around Bedfordshire taking in some of the idyllic scenery of the county.
The 12km route, which will be repeated to make up the 100 miles total, sees Tapley pass notable points such as Bedford Blues’ iconic stadium, Goldington Road and the primary school in which he works as a teaching assistant, ST James CE VA.
Over £1,500 has already been raised to support the vital work of two organisations close to Tapley’s heart, with all funds raised for the cycle being split equally, ensuring further projects can be incorporated within the community.
For example, a £10 donation could help support frozen meals for Bedfordshire’s most vulnerable, £20 could fund equipment for the ABILITY Blues programme, and £50 could support activities at the primary school.
Speaking ahead of the cycle, Tapley commented: “We all know how hard 2020 has been and the strain people are under. Hopefully, by raising money through this challenge, some of this strain can be alleviated.
“Blues Foundation have been doing some amazing work and any contribution to further their impact in the community is something I want to be a part of. St James Primary, like most schools across the country, are having to adapt to these new circumstances. So, these funds will go towards resources that will enable the teaching staff to continue providing quality education.”
Tapley’s mammoth cycling challenge comes right at the start of our recently launched #TRYJanuary project, which encourages everyone in Bedfordshire to start the New Year by focusing on physical and mental health through exercise.
The challenge is to complete 31km’s of exercise throughout the month of January. This can be done at once or spread out across the month – there’s 31 days in January so why not think about attempting a kilometre per day throughout?
