Slow cookers & more meals delivered
Blues Foundation are delighted to have provided further support to Bedfordshire’s most vulnerable this Christmas with the delivery of slow cookers and more frozen meals.
To widen our support and impact across Bedford Borough, Blues Foundation have partnered with the Winter Food Support Group which targets reducing food poverty across Bedford Borough.
National UK Charity Turn2Us estimated in January this year that over two million households (around 4.8 million people) are living without essential household appliances such as fridges, freezers, cookers and washing machine. This will only have risen because of the global pandemic.
To tackle this inequality, the Winter Food Support Group was created by Bedford Borough Council bringing together council officers, YMCA Bedfordshire, FACES, Bedford Foodbank and Blues Foundation.
As part of the project, Blues Foundation delivered multiple slow cookers across Bedford Borough for families and individuals who otherwise would not have access to hot food. These deliveries were assisted by local Bedford business Building Transformation, who provided transport on the day and we are extremely grateful for their support.
In addition, Blues Foundation have also committed to delivering 1,600 frozen meals across Bedfordshire throughout December and January, including 600 delivered before Christmas provided by Portfolio Events.
Blues Foundation Manager, Tom Harwood:
“WE ARE DESPERATE TO SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY FURTHER AND HOPEFULLY THESE MEALS AND APPLIANCES HELP IN A SMALL WAY.”
This support, alongside our foodbank collection at Goldington Road where over 21,000 items were donated to Bedford Foodbank, will support over 4000 meals this winter.
