Thousands of items delivered to help those in need
Blues Foundation are delighted to announce that thousands of items have been donated to Bedford Foodbank and IMPAKT Food to help those in the local community who need it most this Christmas.
Last Sunday, Blues Foundation and Bedford Blues once again partnered together to organise the collection on behalf of two fantastic causes at Goldington Road.
The level of support and generosity from the #BluesFamily was overwhelming with numerous supporters heading to Bedford’s premier sporting venue to make their contribution, ensuring families across Bedfordshire receive those necessary items which they otherwise would have gone without.
Blues Foundation Manager, Tom Harwood was then joined on Tuesday by Trustee and Bedford Blues Chief Operating Officer, Gareth Alred to deliver the donated items to Bedford Foodbank in Manton Heights and IMPAKT Food in the Town Centre.
IMPAKT Food – who Blues Foundation have previously partnered with to offer support – are a community larder operating out of Church Arcade and ensure everyone gets the nourishment they require through items being donated or by teaming up with local businesses and recycling perfectly good food which would otherwise have gone to landfill.
Bedford Foodbank continue to perform an unbelievable function in our local community to get help to people in crisis. Part of the nationwide network of foodbanks, three days of nutritionally balanced emergency food is provided at a time to support those who need it most.
NGO charity, The Trussell Trust – who support Bedford Foodbank – expect the use of foodbanks to soar in the next seven days and the build-up to the Festive period as a further consequence to the COVID pandemic and subsequent financial strain caused to numerous households.
Blues Foundation Manager, Tom Harwood said:
“It has been fantastic to be able to host a collection for the second year running and continue our mission to impact on as many lives as possible right the way across the county.
“We are extremely grateful for everyone’s generosity who have again come out in support of those less fortunate and donated a huge number of items to the collection. It’s been fantastic to already see the impact the donations are having, and we look forward to seeing more of the impact in the lead up to Christmas.”
Contained within the items donated were some of the most in demand items requested by Bedford Foodbank, notably nappies, tinned products, toiletries and Christmas selection boxes. The donation of these items goes directly towards aiding those struggling with the cost of food and essential items this Christmas.
Blues Foundation would like to place on record its thanks to all the volunteers (pictured above) who have helped throughout this process with publicising the event, managing on the day and organising the foodbank donations.
