200+ children reached this summer

Blues Foundation were delighted to once again provide Multi-Sport provision throughout August, directly impacting on the lives of over 200 young people in Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire through the four-week programmes.

Blues Foundation teamed up with Bedford Blues Community to showcase and deliver sports sessions in a fun, safe and inclusive environment across five different venues within the county. The programmes were aimed at supporting children from disadvantaged backgrounds and provided an outlet for them to socialise, meet new people and be physically active.

In partnership with Taylor’s Kitchen, Blues Foundation were also able to provide healthy lunches to those who were eligible for Free School Meals or Pupil Premium, further impacting on the physical and mental well-being of all participants.

Supported by Bedford Borough Council and Central Bedfordshire Council via the Holiday Activity and Food Fund, Blues Foundation were able to have a positive impact on the lives of these numerous young people, teaching important core values and life skills through rugby, football, cricket, golf, team building and much more.

Key stats:

-        200+ Children reached

-        147 boys, 58 girls attended

-        800 meals delivered

-        2342 engagement hours delivered across 16 days of delivery

-        5 community venues used across Bedfordshire

Blues Foundation Manager, Tom Harwood commented: “Physical and mental health is so important, providing something across the summer that positivity impacts on this in young people is vital. We met some fantastic children, the feedback from them and parents has been great which gives us more to build on in the future”.

It is well documented just how much exercise and physical activity can have a positive impact on those involved. Through our social media hashtag #SportForChange we are determined to continue having a positive impact on people’s lives within our community, with this the latest on a number of projects that enables Blues Foundation to reach more people across Bedfordshire and have a direct impact on their lives.

Blues Foundation will shortly announce a new set of community outreach programmes for the remainder of 2021 and into 2022 as well. Keep checking their official website and all social media channels to hear first about the new initiatives!
